This comic pamphlet contains the early life and the missionary life of Joseph de Veurster (later known as Fr. Damien of Molokai), the seventh of eight children of a very religious Belgian farming family. The pamphlet narrates the origin of Joseph’s missionary vocation, his becoming a member of the religious Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, his generous volunteering to minister to the lepers on the island of Molokai, the great humanitarian and spiritual work that he did there for 16 years, and how he himself contracted leprosy and died at only 49 years of age. The pamphlet contains also some basic information about the members of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary who are working in the Philippines, and of their founders: Fr. Pierre Coudrin and Madame Henriette Aymer.
